How To Live A Healthy Life

As a life insurance specialist it's often tempting to focus on the morbid nature surrounding assurance products. Such an outlook need not be the case. I have always been an advocate of the practical application of healthy living.
As a life insurance advisor I have noticed a clear correlation between peoples health and the cost of life insurance. Generally speaking the healthier you are the lower your life insurance premiums will be.
In this article I am going to go over my four top tips for living a healthy life. These are not plucked from thin air, they are based on my many years experience of interviewing life insurance applicants.
A Healthy Diet
Diet is fundamental when it comes to living a healthy lifestyle. I generally don't like to use the word 'diet' as it conjures up images of calorie counting. Forget about fads, I recommend eating low glycemic index (GI) foods on a permanent basis. Foods with a low GI release energy slowly over a long period of time. This not only keeps you fuller for longer but also keeps your blood sugar levels stable. By eating low GI foods you will feel less hungry. This means that rather than using willpower alone to eat less your body will do this job for you. A quick search on the internet for "GI" will reveal a comprehensive list of low glycemic index foods.
Keeping Fit
My next tip is non-nutrition based, but never the less vital in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Studies have shown that you are almost twice as likely to be in optimal health if you exercise frequently. The good news is that you don't have to be a lycra clad marathon runner. Frequent exercise means raising your heart rate for at least 30 minutes a day. Activities could range from mowing the lawn to a gentle jog or walk.
Emotional Health
People often overlook their emotional health. In my experience some of the healthiest people I have met also have the healthiest relationships and emotional lives. They were happy and healthy, both are vital aspects in my definition of overall health. But "becoming happy" is easier said than done. My advice here is that you need to break free of negative patterns of thought and behaviour. Once you realise that your past does not necessarily have to shape your immediate future, lasting happiness tends to ensue.
Having Purpose
This is linked in with emotional health, but is important enough to warrant its own section. Having a purpose is revitalising and gives you an entirely new latitude in life. Obtaining it can unlock benefits such as happiness success and fulfillment. Purpose is fundamental to your emotional health and it gives you increased depth and meaning in life. My advice here is to make a list of short and long term goals. Then go ahead and create several steps that you need to take in order to obtain each goal. This will act as your purpose blueprint, nothing beats the fulfillment of realising that you are heading towards your goals.
Hopefully reading this article has led you to appreciate that overall health is both physical and mental.
