If you're planning on taking part in the triathlon, you've definitely got a lot of questions in mind and one of them could be: "Is weight lifting necessary?" Well, one thing that is observed is the fact that many people overlook weight lifting because it's not directly a part of the triathlon event.
However, if you're really serious about the event you shouldn't make this mistake as it's really important and should be an integral part of your training sessions.
Why weight lifting is important
There are plenty of reasons as to why weight lifting is important, let's take a look at a few of them:
Prevention of injuries
Injuries are the worst nightmare for all athletes as they could leave a person totally paralyzed from the sport for weeks and at times even months. Weight lifting is a good way to prevent injuries as they help strengthen your muscles, tissues, ligaments as well as tendons that surround your joints.
Therefore, when the time comes you would be able to resist the forces that could hinder your performance in the triathlon event.
Your muscles become stronger
Another reason as to why you need to add weight lifting to your list of practice sessions is the fact that it helps build up and tone your muscles. Muscles would be able to help you swim better and maybe even pedal harder if you perform exercises with your feet. So, the stronger you are the faster would you be.
Increase in your power
You may wonder what the difference is between being stronger and having more power. Well, the simple fact is that power is the amount of work that your body can perform in a certain amount of time.
Weight lifting gives you the added stamina that helps you work better. When you have high power it's going to help you in the triathlon especially during the start of each event. Moreover, every event would be smoother as well.
Prevents muscles mass loss
You're not going to be able to run, cycle and swim each and every day; however you would easily be able to hit the gym and lift some weights or maybe you could even do it at home itself.
If you don't train each skill everyday there's a probability that your body muscle mass would reduce and this could have a negative impact of the triathlon event. But, weights would help retain and even build up that muscle mass hence helping you out a lot.
